Our cool down project to finish off the semester was collaborating with a partner to create a 3D FDM printed object. Before we met with our partners we had to come up with 3 concepts that would later be used to create a mashup with one of the other person's 3 concepts. My three concepts were: Lattice Twisting and an asymmetrical taper Extendable A sneaky little print in place extendable container. Mixy A mixture of lattice and solid My partner's 3 concepts were: We chose to combine the lattice effect from my concepts and the stand-like structure from their object. As we built the new object we made some tweaks to fit it as tightly as we could within the 4x4x6 inch limitations. My partner was also able to look up the flow command to allow us to give that twister iron look to the stand. Neither object was directly used in the end but a new object was made inspired equally by each other's work and a collaborative approach to designing the new container.   My partner and I both...

Creativity Booster

Overall, this final piece, or next prototype, is very similar to the last one in shape with more detail and texture added. Most feedback on the prototype was about adding some details so I focused on that in this version.   This was my intense system of cutting up, unrolling, tabbing and prepping for print. Process Stages of prototypes All wired up Final Product I wanted to experiment with using both subtractive and additive decoration, this light bulb is both. I can't get over how good this paper looks, especially with the scoring looking like stitching. Most of the peer feedback I got regarding this was around details and maybe some context. I ended up adding different shapes for the LEDs, very basic shapes, to connect back to early childhood play and learning. You know, matching the shaped blocks to the shaped holes. As this is a functional helmet with electronics I made sure to add a very super functional vent at the back. And as a little nod to Colton 's project I added a ...

I started with a simple vase shape, just to get some familiarity with the material and process. I'm glad I did because I learned that I need to be more precise with my scoring and also what a factor the "curvature" of the shape has on the alignment. With that in mind I started brainstorming idea for my final paper craft. Creativity Booster I decided I'd build myself that would be quite useful for the rest of my career at AUArts, a creativity booster! Inspired by one of the props on The Flash that makes you smarter. This was my first prototype of the highly refined process of crushing paper to my head. I was planning on using it to base my design off of but then I decided I'd rather a learn a new skill, 3D scanning! My old unused XBOX One Kinect has been sitting unused in one of my drawers and I discovered that it can be used as a simple 3D scanning camera. Cleaned up in Meshmixer Imported into Rhino (Quite clear here some of the issues in the scan) I started drawi...
