Butcher of Beeviken

To USBee or not to USBee? After some discussion with classmates and feedback on my other mesh mashups  I settled on fine tuning my USBee concept. Most people seemed to enjoy the juxtaposition of the organic bee and the synthetic USB connector but I also got good feedback on the satisfying simplicity of it. You'll see below in the final mesh that I tried to really emphasize that the connector seems unnaturally jammed into the bee's abdomen. Original Concept Original Models    Progress Screenshots I initially found Meshmixer painful but ended feeling comfortable quite quickly. The sculpting was fun and the selection and separation was tedious but satisfying. It did feel a bit macabre slowing hacking up the bee, especially as I found it quite useful to hide the elements already separated.  Remix Culture Something that's really stood out to me about remix culture is that in a way society is based off of remix culture, in the sense that the progress of humanity has based on the

Marvelous Mesh Mixing Mashup

Created some mashups of a bunch of different 3D models in response to our lecture about read/write culture, also known as remix culture. 1. Natural Litter My first mashup, and my last one in Tinkercad, is a bit on the nose creating nature on a can. And because Tinkercad is so annoying with it's think blue outline/wireframe here's a closeup of the vines but it's not much clearer. Can you guess the image title before you see it? 2. USBee Models used Honey Bee by PeteA USB Plug Sérgio CAD CAM 3. Thirst T

Universal Handle - One Handle to Handle them all

While watching Objectified there was a lot that stuck out to me. Particularly the concept that designers need to take into consideration the whole life cycle of the product, from design to manufacturing and all the way through to disposal as well. When IDEO was discussing the design of the toothbrush it blew my mind that it wasn't more common to have one handle with changeable heads. It is more common now with electric toothbrushes but why was that not standard long ago? It seem like a small thing that wouldn't really be that inconvenient but could save on so much waste. While thinking about this idea it lead me to explore the idea of having one handle that can be used on many other tools. Utensils, makeup, screwdrivers and so on. Working within Tinkercad and it's limitations was really tough, so it involved a lot of experiment as can seen with this fork. Once I got the flow I decided add several different heads. I also explored the idea a bit that different people could b

Testing Blogger and Tinkercad

Tinkercad feels a bit odd when you're used to other 3D software and Blogger feels particularly limited compared to other CMS.
